Rachel Care Center
Rachel's Story
I met Rachel in a village called Kalagi. After ministering the Word of God, the alter was open for those desiring prayer. I came to this young girl and I was drawn to her eyes. They were lifeless with no hope in them. I was compelled to hold her in my arms as I prayed for her. Her skin had bumps all over it. As I watched her being taken away on a bicycle, I turn to the Pastor, asking him what was wrong with her. The answer he gave hit me in the stomach and I felt as though the wind had been knocked out of me. She had full blown AIDS and she was only seven years old. That was my introduction to Rachel.
Rachel is an orphan having lost her parents to AIDS a few years ago. She stayed in a mud house with her Grandmother, and they were both very poor.
I returned to my home but I could not distract my mind from Rachel's face. Returning to the Pastor, he took me to her home. I took her a blanket, crayons and a picture to color. No smile or light came to her eyes.
Another week passed and still her eyes were on my mind. I decided to buy her a doll and returned to see her. Again no smile appeared, and what I found on my return was devastating. The bumps had now become open lesions all over her body. She was in great pain. Turning to the Pastor, I opened my purse and gave him all of the money that I had with me. I then requested him to take her to a doctor for treatment and whatever she may need beyond that. Seed Faith Ministries is now caring for the needs of Rachel.
Rachel improved as we filled her with the proper nutrition. She did well for one year. Suddenly one day her condition worsened and we had to hospitalize her and run many tests. Her white blood cell count had changed and she now needed to be put on a new drug called ARV. This drug can give many more years of life to a person with AIDS.
Rachel was doing better, but once again she was put into the hospital. The doctors gave us little hope, but God had a different idea. Soon we brought her home again, this time to my home where I cared for her for several weeks.
Rachel was returned to the hospital on November 16, 2007. She remains there to this day and is very ill. She loves Jesus so much and I know that she prays. My last report is that she can now hold a very small amount of food and walk three steps. Please pray for her. She is a fighter.
We are sad to report that Rachel died on July 5, 2009 after a long and couragous battle with AIDS. She will be dearly missed.
In the area where Rachel lived there are an estimated 1,000 children afflicted with AIDS.
These children are like throw away children. Once it is learned they have AIDS, most are ignored...as though they don't exist.
Most people think of the sick childern as not being worth their investment. They become outsiders, unloved and not cared for. It is so sad.
Every child needs love and a sense of value. I believe that Jesus and love are the best gift we can give to these children.
Rachel Care Center will introduce the child to Jesus. The children will be shown love and a sense of belonging.
The center is designed to hold eighty children. We will be taking in the very sick that have no one and are in great need of care.
A sick bay is in the design with nurses living on sight.
The facility will be free for the children.
Cost to build Rachel Care Center will be $550,000
